The Bloody Good Dinner™ is not a fundraiser. It is a movement, and in 2022 we were honoured to dress it. Created by the Snowdome Foundation and Maddie Riewoldt’s Vision, this is the dinner that raises serious money for blood cancer and bone marrow failure syndrome research, and it does it with $600 a head, a room full of generous hearts and a standard of styling that refuses to whisper.

Over two million dollars in three years says everything. We say it louder.Gardens House was our canvas, and we went bold or we went home. Every centrepiece was built on the ancient art of ikebana, where every stem has intention and negative space is as powerful as the bloom itself. But this was ikebana with a Melbourne edge, spiked with colour that refuses to behave.

Reds, purples, yellows and oranges colliding in orchids, carnations, gerberas and delphiniums that reached for the light like they had somewhere to be.And then we did something we love most. We let the food be the flowers. Blood plums, pineapple, dragon fruit, limes, tomatoes, grapes and kumquats sat among the blooms like jewels on black linen, a edible still life that paid tribute to every grower, every chef and every plate served that night. It was abundance made visible, because a dinner fighting hunger and disease should look like the harvest it is fighting for.

The drinks bar got the full treatment too, a tropical riot of bananas, papaya, citrus and heliconia against lush monstera leaves, crowned with lilac signage and candles glowing purple and red. Gold cutlery, ribbed glassware, candy pink napkins and printed menus in hot coral brought the whole table story together. Nothing matched perfectly, and that was entirely the point. Colour done well is not chaos, it is confidence.

This event is special to us beyond the styling. It is proof that design has a purpose, that a table can raise money and spirits at the same time, and that when a community shows up in their finest for a cause that matters, the room holds a kind of electricity you cannot manufacture. To the teams behind Snowdome and Maddie Riewoldt’s Vision, thank you for letting us bring the decor energy. Here is to the next two million.

“We were given life so we could pour it into each other. that is the whole point.”
